The warmest congratulations to the 16-year-old NDF-USA member Yevhen Bohush on his impressively successful performance at the 2026 US Open in New York (August 21–28)!
Yevhen went through the entire tournament undefeated, despite facing Grandmasters and International Masters with significantly higher ratings until the final 8th round, where he faced a formidable and experienced International Master Suleyman Keita.
At that stage, Yevhen was contending for the overall tournament title, sitting near the top of the leaderboard with a record of +3=4 (3 wins, 4 draws) and 10 points out of a possible 14.
In a tense, hard-fought match where both players needed a win, the more renowned competitor — a multiple-time US Open and continental tournament winner who ultimately claimed this year’s championship — prevailed.
As a result, 16-year-old Yevhen Bohush for the first time in his career became the US Open medalist (Vice-Champion), finished 4th in the US Open 2026, placing behind only players holding international titles.
And, of course, Yevhen Bohush is the 2026 US Youth Champion!
Congratulations also to Yevhen’s parents and to his coach Andriy Shcherbatyuk!
Best wishes of success and further achievements!
